Our 3 pillars of Learning, Self & Community underpin our 10 school values. Our ambition is to create a dynamic learning culture & environment that ensures that both students & staff have the courage & determination to dare for greatness & readily give of their discretionary effort. To deliver this well-being & safety will be key alongside being resource astute & using MIC to create plans that are evidence-based, research-driven & reviewed regularly to help all students perform exceptionally well. Quality Assurance, leadership depth & strong governance will be the foundations of creating a consistent, safe and robust organisation which values authentic leadership. GS will actively seek external & stakeholder views to bench mark improvement, celebrate success & further improve.
Personal Development will play an integral part of ‘what we do’ as a school community. We want our students to become proactive responsible citizens & be able to pursue careers they are passionate about & live healthy, secure, happy and fulfilled lives. Learning beyond the classroom can have a huge impact on a child but we don’t know which moment at will inspire or resonate with them later in their life. What we do know is that if we ensure children seize as many opportunities as they can something has more chance to stick & act as a catalyst. Building Leadership, Resilience & character doesn’t happen by accident but through planned thought out experiences.
Students are inspired to contribute to our school, their community & society. They actively look out for each other, are emotionally intelligent, challenge bullying & anti-social behaviour when they see it and work collectively together to ensure school is safe and calm. The importance of 100% attendance & excellent punctuality are understood & reinforced by all stakeholders. Students are known, rewarded regularly & encouraged to play an active part in lessons, around school & in their community. Students feel cared for. High expectations are modelled, explicit & those falling short are challenged & supported. Parents play an integral part in delivering all of this. Systems have impact & are followed consistently.
Our mission is to ensure every student leaves GSHS articulate, resilient, compassionate and culturally aware. We believe that if children understand the purpose of what they are learning and why they are learning it; not only will they be more engaged but they are much more likely to remember what they have learnt and be able to use it again in the future. We have designed a carefully sequenced knowledge based, word rich curriculum and we evaluate what knowledge and skills pupils have gained (at each stage) against expectations & use student self-selected KS4/5 target grades to raise aspirations.
Our innovative extra-curricular and enrichment programmes are central to this. We will be at the forefront of educational thinking and embrace technology and will seize cultural opportunities both in and out of the classroom.
Any support required will be identified early, implemented seamlessly working collaboratively & in partnership with stakeholders to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed & thrive at GS regardless of starting point, background or the challenges they may encounter (be they at home, school, physical, mental or academic). Students will develop habits to live and act safely and can avoid putting themselves at risk, including when they are online.
Intervention will be coherently planned and have a tangible impact on students wellbeing and academic success.
We are committed to investing in our staff to ensure they are using the most effective & up to date techniques to help students secure what they learn in class is committed to their long term memory, regardless of their starting point. This should be evident in the outcomes of students.
Any visitor to a classroom should be able to pick up an exercise book, walk in to any lesson, speak to any student & see the impact our vision, values & systems have on a child’s through the delivery of an exceptional learning experience.
Staff will consistently remove barriers to learning & promote the benefit & pleasure of reading & developing language and vocabulary & take risks in developing their own practice.
